About Angie, The Maker
I’ve been making Quilted Christmas stockings since I was a teenager, but the story starts even earlier than that.
My mum, Veronica, made me my very first Christmas stocking. I still have it today.
When I was old enough, she sat down and showed me how to make one myself, and that was it. A tradition was born.
My love of crafting grew from those moments with her. She was a highly skilled maker, the kind of person who could turn fabric into something extraordinary.
Growing up, we used to sell handmade crafts together at Hartlebury Castle in Worcestershire. Back then she made children’s waistcoats and jackets and I made stockings, and little fabric tags.
Those weekends at the craft fairs taught me everything about what handmade really means: the care, the attention to detail, and the joy of putting something beautiful into someone’s hands.
Mum passed away in 2003 after losing her battle with cancer, so she never got to see Craft Making Ideas become what it is today.
She had always dreamed of publishing a book about quilting, and some of her words and ideas live within this site as a quiet tribute to her.
This whole business is dedicated to her memory.
Today I work from my home in South Warrington, Cheshire, where I live with my husband Paul, and our two sons James and Matthew, who have grown up watching me sew. They all have the patience of saints when the lounge is covered with sewing machines, fabric panels, and massive rolls of wadding for months at a time!
I spend a lot of time sourcing rare and vintage Christmas panels, including designs by:
- Cranston
- Nutex
- Rose and Hubble
- Makower
many of which you genuinely won’t find anywhere else. Each stocking and advent calendar is cut, sewn and finished by hand, with optional personalisation added so every piece belongs unmistakably to your family.
I was featured with my Christmas Stockings in The Saturday Times in 2024, appeared on BBC Radio 4’s Money Box, and have been quoted in NerdWallet as an Etsy selling expert. But honestly, none of that matters as much as the messages I get from families who tell me their stocking or advent calendar is their favourite Christmas decoration.
That’s why I do this.
For the tradition. For the memory. For the magic.
